Carbon monoxide leak
Carbon monoxide is a colourless and odourless gas, and it could potentially be from the boiler, cooker or any other gas appliance within the property.
In case of a carbon monoxide alarm or suspicion of a leak, taking prompt action and following these steps will help protect you and your household.
We’ve created together a short video for helpful advice on what to do if your carbon monoxide alarm sounds:
If you're unable to see the video above you can also view it on YouTube as well.
- If the carbon monoxide alarm sounds, please follow the below steps, even if you suspect it's a low battery
- You’ll need to call Southern Gas Networks (SGN) on 0800 111 999. If calling from a mobile phone, go outside or use a neighbour's property to make the call
- Please don't turn anything electrical on or off, including light switches
- Avoid smoking or doing anything that could create a spark
- To turn the gas off, turn the lever to the right-hand side so the lever sits horizontally
- You should then open up doors and windows and leave the property immediately until SGN arrive
Our priority is your safety, and SGN will ensure that your property is safe. If further repair work is required, please get in touch and our gas engineer will be dispatched to make your home safe again.
