Can I have a lodger?

  • Please ensure that the tenancy agreement/lease is referred to as your first point of checking
  • Renting customers may be able to have a lodger, but they’ll need permission from us by getting in touch
  • We won’t allow customers to have a lodger if it'll make your home overcrowded
  • Customers in our independent living schemes will not be able to have a lodger 
  • You'll need to tell the Housing Benefit Office or Department for Work and Pensions that you have a lodger if you’re in receipt of Housing Benefit or Universal Credit
  • Shared owners and leaseholders will need to check their lease to see if they are able to sublet
