Reporting anti-social behaviour

We take anti-social behaviour seriously and we’re committed to taking action against it.
 

  • Anti-social behaviour (ASB) is any behaviour which causes another to feel harassed, alarmed or distressed.
  • Examples of ASB include violent or threatening behaviour, drug and alcohol related nuisance, being noisy or rowdy or causing damage to property.
  • Some things that your neighbours do may irritate you, but that doesn't mean they’re unreasonable or harmful. Some examples of behaviour that isn’t usually ASB includes children playing or babies crying, untidy gardens, disagreements about parking and normal living noise or smells.

People may not realise something they're doing is bothering you. So you may want to try talking to your neighbour first, before you report ASB.
There are various ways you can report ASB: 

  • If there’s any risk of immediate harm or violence call 999 
  • For any other criminal matters, we also encourage you to contact the police by phoning 101.  
  • To report any ASB to us, please get in contact and we can look into it
     

  • When you report ASB to us, we'll contact you within two working days. We’ll open a case and an officer will be assigned to be your point of contact.
  • We’ll be open and honest about what we can do. We’ll listen to you and together we’ll agree a plan of what can be done to help with the situation. This will include what we can do and what you can do to help too.
  • We’ll talk to the person causing the issue to explain the impact they're having and discuss how it could be sorted out.
  • We’ll also talk to other neighbours to understand how they’re being affected.
  • If we need to, we’ll get other agencies involved, such as environmental health, social services or the police. We can also offer support for you, such as victim support.
  • We’ll contact you regularly, so you can keep us up-to-date with how things are going until we reach a resolution.
