Safeguarding

Sometimes customers feel unsafe in their home, either because they can no longer manage it, or they are being abused by friends or family or by people not known to them. Were committed to protecting and respecting your safety and security.

Safeguarding means protecting an adult’s right to live in safety, free from abuse and neglect. There are ten categories of abuse: 

  • Sexual abuse - such as sexual assault, sexual harassment and pornography 
  • Physical Abuse - such as hitting, slapping, punching, kicking or hair-pulling 
  • Psychological or emotional abuse - such as intimidation, coercion, harassment, humiliation, bullying or cyber bullying 
  • Neglect or acts of omission - such as stopping you from going into your home, having clothing, heating, or medical care 
  • Financial or material abuse - such as theft of money or possessions, fraud or scamming 
  • Discriminatory abuse - such as unequal treatment based on age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion and belief, sex or sexual orientation 
  • Institutional or organisational abuse - such as abusive and disrespectful attitudes towards people using the service, Inappropriate use of restraints and misuse of medication. 
  • Domestic abuse - violence or abuse between those aged 16 or over who are or have been intimate partners or family members. This includes controlling, coercive or threatening behaviour 
  • Modern slavery - such as human trafficking, forced labour, domestic servitude 

  • If you or the person you are concerned about are in immediate danger, call the police on 999, or call them on 101 if it is less urgent. 
  • You can also report a Safeguarding concern by contacting your local county council 
  • Or speak to someone you trust, such as a nurse or doctor, a school teacher a minister of religion or your Neighbourhood Officer via the live agent.

  • If you need help with personal care or any aids or adaptations, we can arrange for you to have a care assessment or occupational therapy referral
  • If you need advice about fire safety, we can arrange for you to have a 'Safe and Well' visit from the Fire and Rescue Service. 
  • We can also provide details of agencies who provide emergency alarms. 
  • Contact our customer experience team via the live agent and ask for a referral to Tenancy Support.
