Solar panels in your newbuild home

The solar panels convert the light energy from the sun into electricity which can be used to power lights and household appliances during the daylight hours.

As a VIVID shared owner, you own the solar panels, and will need to register them with the solar panel provider.  Please see handover pack, for this information.

During daylight hours you can save electricity using the electricity input from the solar panels installed on your home.  It would be beneficial to use your washing machine, dryer and any other appliance that uses more electricity, during these daylight hours.
Depending on the number of solar panels on your home (which are determined by the Planning Authority) and weather conditions on the day, your electricity input from the solar panels may vary but it will certainly be cheaper for you to use electric during daylight hours, than it would be at night.
You won't see a deduction on your electricity bill as you would on a feed-in tariff, instead the electricity will come from your solar supply first, before using your normal electricity supply. This means your electricity supplier usage will be lower than a home without solar panels.

Solar panels will reduce your energy bills when using appliances during daylight hours.
Electricity from the solar panels lower your household carbon footprint & emissions.
Electricity generated by the solar panels is green, renewable energy.

If you feel there may be a fault on your solar (PV) system, you'll either need to:

  • Let us know, if you're during your defect period, you can do this by raising a defect in your online account or by getting in touch
  • Contact the solar panel provider, if you defects period has ended, you can find this information in your handover pack

As a VIVID resident, you don’t own the solar panels and therefore cannot register them with the provider.  VIVID are the legal owner of the solar panels, so you do not need to do anything.

you will still get the benefit of having them in your home.  During daylight hours you can save electricity using the electricity input from the solar panels installed on your home.  It would be beneficial to use your washing machine, dryer and any other appliance that uses more electricity, during these daylight hours.
