Warmer homes: Solar panels

During the warmer homes programme, we may fit solar panels to your roof that convert sunlight into free electricity for your home to use. Modern systems can include battery storage to help you use more of the free electricity your panels generate.

Some of the benefits of having solar panels are:

  • You can get free electricity during daylight hours
  • They can reduce your energy bills
  • They're able to reduce your carbon footprint
  • They will work even on cloudy days
  • Any excess energy can be used to heat water
  • There is minimal maintenance needed

When we install solar panels, we will:

  • Survey to check the roof suitability
  • Try to minimise the disruption, however there will be a brief power interruption during install
  • Install a new meter
  • Ensure there are simple user controls
  • Provide you with clear timelines and daily updates of the installation

Adding solar panels to your home can cut carbon emissions by up to 1.6 tonnes a year, the equivalent of planting 2,365 trees and letting them grow for ten years. They’ll generate clean, quiet energy for decades, so you can reduce your energy bills while doing your part to help to protect the planet.

For houses, usually in the loft or utility room. For flats there are compact solutions available; all equipment will be neatly installed and hidden. Installation plans are all custom to your property with space requirements discussed upfront.

We don’t install batteries as standard with all solar panel systems.  Where we do install a battery, you can store daytime electricity for evening use or when the sun isn’t shining.

Yes - solar panels work even on cloudy days; modern panels are super-efficient.

Installation tends to take around 1-2 days to complete.
