Key safe
- A key safe is a small, secure box that’s fixed to the outside of a building. It holds a spare set of keys and can only be opened using a unique code
- Key safes are often used to help trusted people — like carers, family members, or emergency services — get into your home safely if you’re not able to answer the door. This can be especially helpful if you need extra support, have mobility issues, or in an emergency
- Key safes are designed to be strong and weather‑proof. You stay in control of who has the code, and you’re able to change the code at any time for extra peace of mind
Yes, we'll consider carrying out minor aids and adaptation, like installing a keysafe where it's at the request of our renting customer (either for them or for a member of their household) and/ or the work is recommended by a qualified Occupational Therapist (OT).
We wouldn't put one up for a shared owners, leaseholders or freeholders.
Yes, you can add a key safe to your own property. However, when moving out the key safe needs to be taken down and the holes filed in.
- The best places to put a key safe is on brick walls, wooden structures or in outside cupboards
- They must not be attached to any fire doors or any walls that contain asbestos
If you're aware of the code and would like to use, please let us know so we can make sure it's not due to be removed.
