What to do in the event of a fire
To protect yourself in the event of a fire, we need you to know what to do to keep yourself and your family and neighbours safe if there’s a fire in your home or your block. Find out what to do in the event of a fire below.
- We work with fire experts to make sure that we’ve done everything we can to reduce the risk of a fire. This includes completing a fire risk assessment for all our blocks of flats.
- Install and maintain fire alarm systems, smoke detection and protection equipment where required, which we maintain to the highest standard.
- Carry out annual checks on smoke and heat detectors in our rented homes. All other residents, including shared owners, are responsible for checking their own detectors.
- Regularly inspect fire doors to ensure they’re fit for purpose.
- Regularly inspect our blocks to ensure that escape routes are clear, and we remove any items from communal areas that may pose a fire risk.
- Update you on any fire safety issues by letter or email.
- Provide support to those who may need help evacuating in the event of a fire or emergency.
- Carry out further checks on taller buildings and those with cladding.
- Take steps to reduce the chances of a fire occurring in your home
- Ensure everyone in your home knows what to do and how to evacuate the building in the event of a fire – find out more below.
- Keep communal areas clear.
- Contact us if you spot any fire safety issues or if there are items being stored in communal areas. If you think any fire safety equipment may be tampered with, let us know.
- Read any information we send you on fire safety and make yourself aware of the fire safety notices in your block.
- Check your smoke detector regularly to make sure the unit operates and sounds correctly. Let us know if you have trouble hearing and need a special detector.
