Using mould spray
We recommend a line of products from a company called HG. If there are vulnerabilities or health concerns related to use of sprays etc. in the household, we recommend PURA treatment which is both odourless and non-toxic.
If you’ve reported your damp and mould case to us, where appropriate, our team can provide you with a bottle of this when they visit to help you manage milder cases.
These are the steps to follow when carrying out a wash, or having a wash carried out by one of our operatives.
- Before you start, make sure you’re wearing gloves, safety goggles and mask, and protect furniture/furnishings with dust sheets (mould spray will bleach/discolour items if spilt or over-sprayed)
- Open windows for added ventilation, but keep doors shut to avoid spores spreading through the home
- It’s best not to remove any mould, algae or fungi and risk disturbing the mould spores
- Spray 2-5cm away from the surface and leave it to work for 30 minutes. When finished, carefully blot any product from the area. For stubborn mould, you may need to repeat the process
- Rinse the cloth and leave to dry. If you’re using a disposable cloth, throw it away
- When complete, clean the surface with a damp sponge and clean water (no need to scrub)
You can use this same process to clean mould from silicone and tiles in areas of high humidity e.g. bathrooms, as well as wallpaper and painted surfaces.
If you’re removing it from wallpaper, we suggest using very small amounts of cleaner at a time as staining/discolouration may occur.
After a clean is carried out, if mould is persistent and has attacked silicone/grout, we can look at raking out and replacing.
If you have mould on soft furnishings like clothing or soft toys, they should be professionally dry cleaned. Please don’t clean them with the HG mould spray.
If you have any concerns, or if you think your issue is getting worse, please get in touch. Providing photos will help the damp and mould specialist with their assessment.
