Cookers
In most cases, it will be down to you to maintain and look after however there are exceptions which will be in your tenancy agreement.
In our renting properties, the cooker switch would be down to us to look after. During your gas safety check, we'll complete a visual inspection of all gas appliances, including cookers.
If the cooker is our responsibility, then we would connect or disconnect where required.
If the cooker is your responsibility then you'll need to arrange for the cooker to be connected or disconnected by a registered engineer where required.
When we're installing a new kitchen, as part of our planned refurbishments, we will arrange for the cooker to be disconnected and reconnected.
If you would like to change from an electric cooker to a gas cooker, please check that there is a gas pipe work in your cooker space first.
If there is a gas pipe, then you'll need to arrange for a Gas Safe engineer to connect up the new cooker.
If there isn't gas pipe in the cooker space and you're a renting customer, this isn't something we allow to be installed. If you're a shared owner or leaseholder, please get in touch and we can complete a property improvement request with you.
If the cooker is your responsibility then you'll need to look at either getting the cooker repaired or replaced using a registered engineer, such as a Gas Safe engineer.
If you're unable to afford this, we may be able to help, find out more here.
